Euroformat lifts in the library of the future
On 10 September 2017, the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Centre opened on the campus of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in Lviv. One of the main features of the new information and resource centre is its European-style library, combining spacious functional areas, contemporary design and Euroformat lift equipment. The lifts are integrated into the architectural concept of the building and provide convenient movement between floors.
Euroformat lift design: in harmony with the architecture
The library at the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Centre is a five-storey building designed around modern architectural and functional requirements. Spacious halls, carefully planned zoning and contemporary design solutions create a comfortable environment for study, research and cultural events. An important part of the building’s infrastructure is its energy-efficient and safe Euroformat lift equipment.
Two EFR machine-room-less lifts have been installed in the library. The first is a 630 kg passenger lift for transporting visitors, while the second is a 1,000 kg goods-passenger lift designed to carry people, equipment and other loads. Both lifts are designed with safety, comfort, energy efficiency and ease of maintenance in mind.
Particular attention was given to aesthetics throughout the UCU library project. Euroformat lifts were integrated into the architectural concept with Prestige-style lift cabins. The interiors use textured stainless steel with a canvas finish, selected for its durability and compatibility with the contemporary design of the building. The material supports the minimalist character of the interior and helps the lift cabins blend naturally into the overall architectural composition.
The use of Euroformat equipment in this project demonstrates how Ukrainian-made lifts can be integrated into modern educational and public spaces while meeting both technical and design requirements.
What makes the UCU library unique
The library at the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Centre is more than a place for storing books. It is a contemporary environment for study, research and cultural exchange, designed to host educational and cultural events. Construction of the Centre began in 2015 based on a design by German architect Stefan Behnisch and Behnisch Architekten, a practice known for its contemporary architectural approach and focus on environmentally responsible design.
The combination of functionality, modern architecture and carefully planned engineering solutions has made the Centre a notable educational facility. Euroformat lifts support convenient access between floors while complementing the contemporary character of the building.
Participation in a project such as the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Centre became an important example for Euroformat of applying its lift equipment in modern educational infrastructure. The use of Ukrainian-made lifts in the UCU library demonstrated the capabilities of local manufacturing in projects with demanding functional and design requirements.
